The Heartland Conference on Health Equity and Patient-Centered Care will offer two scholarship pathways to attend the 2026 Heartland Conference
  1. Community Health Worker, Birth Worker, & Community Advocate Pathway
  2. Kansas Birth Equity Network Parent & Community Member Pathway
Community Health Worker, Birth Worker, & Community Advocate Pathway
Regional Community Health Workers (CHWs) and community advocates are invited to apply for registration, travel (if traveling 20 miles or greater), & hotel awards (as needed) to attend the conference from Wednesday, September 10th through Friday, September 12th.

The scholarship is also available to Kansas Birth Equity Network (KBEN) members traveling from outside the Kansas City metro area to attend the Birth Equity Summit and full Heartland conference.

This scholarship honors the important work of grassroots advocates who promote health, health equity, and patient-centered care in their communities. We want to bring your knowledge, expertise, and commitment to patients and the CHW field to the Heartland! Scholarship awardees will receive funding to pay for full registration to the pre-conference session (Sept 10th) and for all two days of the Heartland Conference (Sept 11th & 12th).

To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must:
  1. Be a Community Health Worker in the region, a volunteer advocate for patients or patient-centered care, or an out of town KBEN member attendee.
  2. Be over 18 years of age.
  3. Complete the full application.
  4. Submit a letter of support from a supervisor/volunteer coordinator of the applicant.
    1. Note: This applies to both paid and volunteer positions. If you do not have a supervisor, please contact Ashlyn Stone at [email protected] for further instruction.
    2. Kansas Birth Equity Network affiliated applicants may submit a letter of support from KBEN. Please contact KBEN at [email protected].
  5. Attend the pre-conference session on Sept 9th and BOTH DAYS of the Heartland Conference on September 10th and September 11th from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm*.
